Dr. Nuzarath Jahan: appointed as International President of Human Rights Commission of United Nations

New Delhi . Dr. Nuzarath Jahan, a well-known social activist, philanthropist, and political figure from Malabar, Kozhikode, continues to make impactful strides in social work and human rights. Recognized for her strong leadership, deep social commitment, and relentless activism, Dr. Jahan’s journey is one of dedication to uplift the marginalized communities and Indians abroad.
Her initial foray into social service began during Kerala’s devastating floods and later extended to addressing the aviation issues faced by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), especially in the Gulf countries. With over two decades of professional experience in the aviation industry, including with airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, Oman Air, and Air India, she possesses a thorough understanding of the difficulties faced by Indians overseas. Her expertise and close ties with NRI communities have allowed her to act swiftly and effectively in times of crisis.
In 2019, driven by the passion to give a voice to the needy, Dr. Jahan entered the political arena. Contesting as an independent candidate in the Parliament elections from Calicut, she advocated for the rights of NRIs and minority communities. Her goal was to serve the underprivileged and address long-standing issues faced by Indian migrants abroad.
Dr. Jahan has also been an active member of several key regional organizations including the Malabar Development Forum and Save Karipur Forum. She played a central role in the “Mission Save Calicut Airport” campaign to reinstate Code E aircraft operations and Hajj embarkation facilities, which are vital for the people of Malabar.
Her social contributions extend beyond aviation. She has been a key supporter of the differently-abled, HIV-positive patients through the Swanthanam Trust, and has consistently raised funds for medical and educational support for underprivileged communities. During the Kerala floods of 2018–2019, she personally led relief efforts under her foundation, Happy Voice, providing essential supplies, education tools, and motivational training for tribal and backward children.
One of her most significant protests was a hunger strike held in December 2018, demanding the reduction of exorbitant charges for repatriating the bodies of Indians who passed away abroad. Her efforts led to a policy change, easing the financial burden on grieving families.
Dr. Jahan currently serves as the National Vice President of the Republican Party of India (Athawale), Chairperson of Happy Voice, and International President of the International Human Rights Defenders. In recognition of her global humanitarian work, she has recently been selected as a lifetime member of the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations (HRCUN); and International President ,a notable honor supported by the Government of the United States.
Dr. Jahan’s academic background is equally inspiring. She holds an MBA in Aviation Security Management from Edith Cowan University in Australia and a PhD in Spiritual Science from Calcutta University. She is also a published author, with notable works including Pennu Rastriyathe Thodumbol and Modi Mahatma, the latter released at the World Book Fair in 2025.
Among her many accolades are the Nari Shakti Award (2022), National Social Award (2023), and the Indian Galaxy Foundation’s National Women’s Excellence Award (2024).
Dr. Jahan lives in Calicut with her daughter Fathima Fidha. Her story is one of perseverance, compassion, and unwavering service to humanity. As she continues her mission, her words resonate with hope: “Save the society with a tool and a pen in both hands. Let that be our aim.”
