Anil Mishra Founder and Managing Director of DPIFF – The Visionary Behind DPIFF’s Global Rise

Anil Mishra, the Founder and Managing Director of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF), stands as one of the most inspiring and influential figures in India’s creative and cultural landscape. With an unwavering commitment to celebrating Indian cinema and elevating it to global prominence, Anil Mishra has meticulously shaped DPIFF into a world-class cultural platform that bridges the gap between tradition and innovation. His journey from modest beginnings to leading one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world is a remarkable story of determination, resilience and visionary leadership.

Raised in a humble household in a small village in Uttar Pradesh within a police family, Anil Mishra’s early years instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and dedication. At the age of 15, he moved to Mumbai with nothing but a dream to be a part of the cinematic world. His early struggles—from selling fruits near Film City to working as a spot boy and later as a celebrity assistant and production manager—helped him develop a strong foundation rooted in hard work and integrity. Every stage of his journey contributed to a profound understanding of the entertainment industry and shaped his mission to democratize access to opportunities in cinema.

Anil Mishra’s career took a transformative turn when he entered ministry in 2001. His dedication to public welfare and policy development earned him advisory roles across various central ministries including Textiles, Telecom, Consumer Affairs, and Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. Through these roles, he contributed to national progress with a focus on rural upliftment, industrial diversification, and cultural promotion. His holistic view of development led him to blend governance with creativity, recognizing the power of film and media as tools for social change and international cultural diplomacy.

In 2016, driven by his lifelong admiration for cinema and its pioneers, Anil Mishra founded the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival with a vision to honour excellence in storytelling while preserving the legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke, the Father of Indian Cinema. What began as a tribute has grown into a global movement. Today, DPIFF is India’s only independent international film festival, recognized not just for its star-studded gala but for its consistent dedication to promoting artistic integrity, emerging voices, and cross-cultural exchange. Under his leadership, DPIFF has become a trusted name that symbolizes authenticity, transparency, and cultural celebration, earning accolades both nationally and internationally.

Beyond his role in the cinematic world, Anil Mishra is a prominent social reformer and cultural ambassador. As a key driver of the We For World Foundation, he has been instrumental in initiating widespread community service projects across India. From environmental conservation efforts like tree plantations and beach clean-ups to large-scale relief campaigns during the COVID-19 pandemic, his work consistently reflects empathy and impact. A staunch advocate of Swadeshi and sustainable tourism, he actively collaborates with the Ministry of Tourism to highlight India’s rich cultural destinations, encouraging global filmmakers to explore and shoot within the country’s diverse landscapes.

Anil Mishra’s expertise spans public administration, leadership strategy, grassroots engagement, and creative enterprise. His ability to bring people together—from local artisans to global icons—is a hallmark of his inclusive and strategic vision. He mentors aspiring professionals, empowers youth through career development programs, and champions social initiatives that align with national goals. His efforts have garnered admiration from industry leaders, policy makers, and audiences alike, establishing him as a guiding force in India’s cinematic renaissance.

Today, Anil Mishra continues to inspire countless individuals with his life’s work—rooted in humility, driven by purpose, and aimed at empowering the creative soul of India. Through DPIFF and beyond, he remains a relentless advocate for excellence, equity, and enduring cultural legacy.
