Shimla, January 4, 2026: In a landmark move aligned with India’s BRICS Presidency 2026, the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRICS CCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 4 January 2026 in Shimla, marking a significant step towards deepening global cooperation and accelerating sustainable economic development in the State. Facilitated with the pivotal support of the BRICS CCI Chandigarh Chapter, the MoU seeks to enable BRICS delegations, international conferences, policy dialogues, and knowledge-led engagements, while positioning Himachal Pradesh as a preferred destination for sustainable development, innovation, tourism, MSMEs, and global business collaboration. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Government of Himachal Pradesh by Dr. Yunus, IAS, Commissioner, Industries, and by the leadership of BRICS CCI, in the presence of Mr. Harvansh Chawla, Chairman; Mr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Vice Chairman; Mr. Sameep Shastri, Vice Chairman; and Mr. Deepak Shukla, Regional President, BRICS CCI Chandigarh Chapter. Complementing this agreement, a Memorandum of Commitment (MoC) was also executed on the same day between the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Chandigarh Chapter, aimed at strengthening trade, investment, and business cooperation, with a focused emphasis on BRICS and partner countries. The MoC was signed by Dr. Yunus, IAS, Commissioner (Industries) and Shri Deepak Shukla, Regional President, BRICS CCI Chandigarh Chapter. Both agreements were formalised in the august presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and the Hon’ble Minister of Industries, Shri Harshwardhan Chauhan, reflecting the State Government’s strong resolve to promote investment-led growth, MSMEs, startups, and sustainable economic development. Expressing satisfaction over the collaboration, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated, “This agreement will open new avenues for Himachal Pradesh’s industry, horticulture, agriculture, and MSME sectors. With the support of BRICS CCI, our local products will gain access to global markets, generating employment opportunities and attracting greater investment to the State.” Echoing this sentiment, Hon’ble Industry Minister Shri Harshwardhan Chauhan said that the MoU would serve as a milestone in integrating Himachal Pradesh with the global supply chain, while significantly strengthening investor confidence in the State. The partnership is expected to enhance Himachal Pradesh’s global outreach, foster policy-driven collaboration, and unlock new opportunities for businesses and institutions across the BRICS ecosystem.
