Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Leads the Way in Environmental Action: ‘Go Green’ Campaign with Indian Army Applauded by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Maharashtra: In a powerful testament to the growing alliance between culture and climate consciousness, Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF), has been honoured with high commendation by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, for its transformative Tree Plantation Drive held along with the Indian Army at the Pokhran Firing Range, Thane on 2nd June 2025.

As part of DPIFF’s “Go Green” initiative, the drive aims to plant over 10,000 trees across key ecological zones—making it one of the most impactful green campaigns by a cultural organisation in India. The Hon’ble CM, in his official remarks, described the initiative as “a remarkable example of how institutions rooted in art and heritage can lead the way in shaping a sustainable future.” He further lauded DPIFF for merging cinematic legacy with a profound sense of environmental duty, calling it “a cultural force that uplifts society not just through storytelling, but through action.”

This commendation follows the earlier support extended by Smt. Pankaja Gopinath Munde, Hon’ble Minister of Environment & Climate Change, Animal Husbandry, Government of Maharashtra and National Secretary of BJP, who praised the initiative for its long-term vision and collaboration with India’s armed forces. “DPIFF’s work is an inspiring reflection of how influential platforms can foster ecological balance while championing national service,” she stated.

The plantation event, organised in collaboration with the Indian Army, was more than a symbolic gesture—it was a carefully orchestrated effort to enhance biodiversity, support afforestation, and promote climate resilience. Soldiers, volunteers and cultural leaders joined hands in a rare confluence of purpose, underscoring DPIFF’s belief in actionable change.

Abhishek MishraCEO of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, expressed deep gratitude for the recognition received from both leaders. “At DPIFF, we believe our responsibilities extend beyond the screen. Cinema, at its core, reflects the times we live in—and today, the call is clear: act for the planet. With support from Shri Devendra Fadnavis Ji and Smt. Pankaja Munde Ji, we are emboldened to do more,” he remarked.

Anil Mishra – Founder & Managing Director of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, shared his thoughts on the occasion: “At DPIFF, we have always viewed cinema as a reflection of society and a powerful tool for change. Our Go Green Initiative and Tree Plantation Drive are not just symbolic acts—they are tangible steps toward creating a more responsible and environmentally aware India. We are honoured to collaborate with the Indian Army in this mission and deeply thankful for the unwavering support and blessings of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra. His recognition reinforces our commitment to executing meaningful CSR initiatives that blend cultural pride with ecological responsibility. This is not just about planting trees—it’s about planting values that will shape a greener, more resilient future.”

As India’s only independent international film festival bearing the name of Shri Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, DPIFF has consistently harnessed the power of its platform for public good. Over the years, it has addressed themes such as education, national pride, women empowerment, and sustainability, ensuring that its legacy is as socially responsible as it is artistically rich.

The ongoing “Go Green” campaign is a reflection of that larger vision—a commitment to nurturing not only creative talent but also the land that sustains us. DPIFF’s leadership in this space marks a new chapter in how film festivals can act as catalysts for real-world change.
