David Bowie’s son praises BRITs tribute

The ‘Space Oddity’ hitmaker – who sadly passed away a month ago after a quite battle with cancer – was remmbered at the annual music ceremony last night (24.02.16) and after death gave the BRITs Icon Award and his child Duncan has taken to Twitter to praise the tribute.

He composed: ”Finally found the links to tonight’s Brits. Just… beautiful. Thank you (sic)”

Amid the show – which additionally highlighted an execution of David’s hit track ‘Life On Mars’ by Lorde – his dear companion Gary Oldman recollected an amusing and positive fellow.

He said: ”David faced his illness with dignity, grace and his customary humour. Even in dire circumstances. When he wrote to tell me he had cancer, he said ‘the good news is I have my cheekbones back’. David, you were mortal but your potential was superhuman and your remarkable music is living on. We love you and we thank you.

”We are all coming to terms with the magnitude of David’s passing. The Jones family lost a husband and father, those closest to David lost a dear friend and the world lost a man and artist of transcendent talent.

”His influence has no equal, he was the living embodiment of that singular word icon and I am so deeply touched and honoured to be here tonight to accept the award on behalf of his family.”

Celine Dion received a number of standing ovations as she performed her Las Vegas show for the first time since the death of her husband Rene Angelil.

The Canadian singer was plucked out of obscurity by the 73-year-old who propelled her to fame before marrying her in 1994.

Dion said returning to the stage at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace has been an emotional time.

‘Throughout my life, I only had eyes for my husband, who sat out here, night after night.

‘People thought that I was looking at him actually but I didn’t have to, I didn’t need to, because every time I closed my eyes, I felt Rene on stage with me,’ Dion told the audience as she fought back tears.

Angelil, who was Dion’s manager in 1981-2014, died on 14 January of heart and cancer-related issues.

Dion herself had fought an illness that has caused inflammation in her throat muscles when she cancelled her performances in both Las Vegas and Asia in August 2014.

The couple had three children together – Rene-Charles, who was born in 2001 and twins Nelson and Eddy, who were born in 2010.
