Day 3 at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival: From Quantum Conversations to Soulful Classical Crescendos

Headlined by Dharavi Rocks, Day 3 at Kala Ghoda moved from quantum talks to classical crescendos.

The evening began at the historic Elphinstone College Quadrangle with the panel discussion Lifestyle in a Quantum Universe. Featuring Terence Lewis, Madhu Chopra, and author Neetika Modi, the session explored the intersection of quantum thinking, emotional wellbeing, and creative expression in shaping modern lifestyles.

As the focus shifted to Cross Maidan, music defined the evening’s arc of energy and emotion.

The highlight of the day was the high-energy performance by the young musicians of Dharavi Rocks, whose infectious rhythms and street-born musicality lit up Cross Maidan. Performing alongside flautist Rajeev Raja and the Rajeev Raja Combine, the collaboration blended jazz with Indian classical, Afro, blues, Latin, and world music influences in a vibrant set from 7:25 PM to 8:20 PM. The synergy between seasoned musicians and emerging talent created one of the most electric moments of the evening.

Earlier in the evening, Padma Shri Soma Ghosh, foster daughter of the legendary shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, performed with Parampara Band from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Her performance brought the richness of India’s classical traditions to the open-air festival setting with grace and depth.

Internationally celebrated Tal Kravitz’s Musical Journey featured a collaboration with Grammy jury member and global guitarist-composer Anupam Shobhakar, along with tabla maestro Amit Mishra. The performance created a lush cross-cultural soundscape where the sitar’s classical soul conversed with contemporary global textures, drawing audiences into a meditative yet dynamic sonic experience.

The night reached a stirring crescendo with the Rahul Deshpande Collective, whose performance carried the gravitas of Hindustani classical music while connecting effortlessly with newer listeners, turning Cross Maidan into a shared space of nostalgia, devotion, and musical celebration.

With conversations that stimulated the mind and performances that stirred the soul, Day 3 perfectly captured Kala Ghoda’s spirit — a festival where heritage meets experimentation, and every evening becomes a cultural journey.
