Dr. Shashank Kulkarni Delivers Lecture on “Role of Youth in Development of Bharat” at G. B. Memorial School, Sukarhattu, Ranchi

Ranchi, November 4,A thought-provoking and inspiring lecture programme was held at G. B. Memorial School, Sukarhattu, Ranchi, where Dr. Shashank Dattatray Kulkarni, a renowned Agricultural Policy Scientist and Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the Central University of Jharkhand, addressed students on the theme “Role of Youth in Development of Bharat.” The event drew wide participation from students, teachers, and educationists, creating an atmosphere of learning and reflection on the vital role that youth play in shaping the nation’s destiny.

Dr. Kulkarni, who is well-known across the country for his pioneering work in the field of agricultural policy, governance, and rural development, began his lecture by describing the youth as the “driving force and heartbeat of Bharat.” He stated that no nation can progress without the active participation and creative energy of its young citizens. Citing examples from history and contemporary society, he illustrated how youth movements have consistently served as catalysts for national transformation—from the Indian freedom struggle to the digital revolution of modern India.

He emphasized that Bharat’s demographic advantage, with over 65 percent of its population below the age of 35, offers a unique opportunity to shape a future founded on innovation, integrity, and inclusivity. “The youth of today are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the torchbearers of our civilizational mission today,” Dr. Kulkarni remarked. “They must channel their energy not merely for personal gain but for the upliftment of society and the progress of our nation.”

The lecture explored multiple dimensions of youth involvement in nation-building. Dr. Kulkarni highlighted four key areas where young people can make a decisive contribution: education, agriculture, technology, and governance.

He spoke about the need for education that not only imparts knowledge but also inculcates moral character, empathy, and a sense of responsibility. “Our educational institutions,” he said, “must not only produce degree-holders but also nation-builders—individuals who think critically, act ethically, and work collectively for the welfare of all.”

On the topic of agriculture, Dr. Kulkarni drew from his vast research experience. He underlined that the modernization of Bharat’s agricultural sector will depend heavily on the creativity and participation of young minds. “Agriculture is not an outdated profession—it is the lifeline of our civilization,” he explained. “By integrating science, technology, and traditional wisdom, youth can make farming both sustainable and profitable. A nation that neglects its farmers cannot dream of true progress.”

Turning to the sphere of technology, Dr. Kulkarni observed that the digital era has opened unprecedented avenues for entrepreneurship, innovation, and social change. He encouraged students to harness the power of digital tools, artificial intelligence, and innovation ecosystems for constructive purposes—creating solutions for real societal challenges rather than seeking instant fame or monetary gain.

Speaking about governance, he asserted that active youth participation in public life is essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in government. “Democracy is not a spectator sport,” he said. “The youth must engage, debate, and participate in public discourse with knowledge and compassion.”

Throughout his address, Dr. Kulkarni invoked the idea of “Viksit Bharat”—a vision of a developed and self-reliant India guided by spiritual values and moral integrity. He noted that the path toward a developed Bharat does not merely lie in economic indicators or industrial growth, but also in the ethical and spiritual development of its people. “When we speak of progress,” he said, “we must remember that Bharat’s foundation rests on Dharma, compassion, and collective well-being. Material progress without moral progress is hollow.”

Drawing inspiration from great national leaders such as Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Dr. Kulkarni reminded the students that every generation has a sacred duty to contribute to the evolution of the nation. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he said, “Give me 100 energetic youth and I shall transform India.” Dr. Kulkarni then added, “That call still echoes today. The youth of the 21st century have the power, intellect, and tools to make Bharat a beacon of sustainable and equitable development for the entire world.”

The session also included an interactive segment where students raised thought-provoking questions about career choices, value-based education, and social responsibility. Dr. Kulkarni patiently responded to each question, motivating the students to pursue excellence with humility. He reminded them that true success lies not in competition but in contribution. “Your education must not end with employment—it must begin with empowerment,” he said.

Teachers and faculty members present at the event expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Kulkarni’s engaging and inspiring talk. The School Director lauded his ability to connect complex ideas with practical examples and applauded his emphasis on integrating tradition with modernity. The Principal noted that Dr. Kulkarni’s lecture was not just informative but transformative, urging students to think beyond examinations and marks to the larger goal of serving humanity.

Several teachers observed that such interactions between university professors and school students are essential for nurturing a bridge between higher learning and grassroots education. The faculty expressed their desire to organize more such knowledge-sharing sessions in the future to inspire their students toward nation-building ideals.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Kulkarni expressed his gratitude to the school authorities for inviting him and commended their efforts in shaping the next generation of responsible citizens. “Each child sitting here,” he said, “is a seed of potential waiting to blossom into a tree of service. If guided with wisdom and love, the youth of Bharat can lead not only our country but the entire world toward peace, prosperity, and sustainability.”

The lecture concluded with a standing ovation from the audience, followed by a formal vote of thanks. Students shared that they felt deeply motivated by Dr. Kulkarni’s words and pledged to contribute positively to the development of Bharat. The programme ended with the national song Vande Mataram, symbolizing unity and devotion to the motherland.

The event at G. B. Memorial School thus became more than just an academic gathering—it evolved into a celebration of youthful enthusiasm, national spirit, and intellectual awakening. Dr. Kulkarni’s words served as a reminder that every young citizen holds the power to build the Bharat of tomorrow through vision, virtue, and valor.
