Smart meter installed at the home of MLA Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel.Installation done by female technician Ujala Rameshbhai Patel
Surat: Gujarat, known for being at the forefront of embracing modernity and change, is rapidly adopting smart meters, which are revolutionizing the energy sector. Public representatives are leading the way in promoting this revolutionary technology. In line with this, Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel, MLA from the Valsad constituency, had a smart meter installed at his home.
Encouraging the public to follow suit, he stated, “Smart meters represent a revolutionary change in the energy sector. They empower electricity consumers with the ability to monitor and control their electricity usage. We can easily track and manage our energy consumption. Therefore, everyone should step forward to install smart meters, which will further accelerate Gujarat’s development journey.”
The installation of the smart meter at MLA Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel’s home highlighted the inspiring story of Ujala Rameshbhai Patel, a female field technician. Ujala’s life is a source of motivation for many girls who are often forced to drop out of school and remain confined to their homes due to societal pressures. Ujala, however, refused to give up. She completed her education as an electrician and worked hard to prove herself. Breaking barriers in a field traditionally dominated by men, Ujala has become a role model by installing smart meters and promoting women’s empowerment. She is setting an example that women can excel in any field, from space exploration to technical jobs.
On Saturday, Ujala installed a smart meter at MLA Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel’s residence in Valsad constituency.
Speaking about her achievement, Ujala said, “It is a matter of great pride for me to be self-reliant and to have established my identity as a field technician. What makes this even more special is the opportunity to install a smart meter at the home of a public representative.”
Ujala also emphasized the need for a societal shift in mindset towards girls.
She stated, “In many villages, girls are still unable to complete their education due to various reasons. Parents play a significant role in this, as many of them stop their daughters’ education after Class 8 or 10, or marry them off early. I consider myself fortunate that my parents supported me in pursuing my education and career.”
She urged parents to change their perspective, saying, “Only by changing their mindset can parents enable their daughters to become self-reliant. This is the only way to achieve the true purpose of women’s empowerment. Government initiatives alone are not enough; society must take the lead in this change.”
It is worth mentioning that smart meters have emerged as a revolutionary step in energy conservation. This citizen-focused initiative by the central government is being adopted by states across the country. To build trust among the public regarding smart meters, public representatives are leading by example by installing them in their homes. Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel’s effort is a commendable step in this direction.
