IIM Kashipur Successfully Concludes International Conference on “Sustainable Management Strategies for India’s Future”
India – 12th May 2025: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur, in collaboration with Brunel University London, successfully concluded its three-day International Conference on “Sustainable Management Strategies for India’s Future” on 11th May 2025. Aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the landmark event brought together more than 100 distinguished thought leaders, academicians, industry experts, and policymakers from across India and abroad to deliberate on sustainable strategies shaping India’s developmental future.
Over the course of three intellectually enriching days, the conference featured 101 research paper presentations across 24 thematic tracks, encompassing a wide spectrum of issues—from Indian Knowledge Systems, Artificial Intelligence in sustainability, and financial inclusion to sustainable business models, ethical leadership, corporate governance, and social innovation. Each session fostered critical discussions, offered interdisciplinary perspectives, and encouraged collaborative thinking aimed at generating real-world impact.
The conference was graced by several eminent personalities. Shri C. M. Bhandari, former Indian Ambassador to Poland, Cambodia, and the UAE, shared his deep insights during the plenary sessions. Leading academic voices such as Prof. Satish Deodhar from IIM Ahmedabad, Prof. Monomita Nandy, and Prof. Robin Jarvis from Brunel University London contributed actively to the deliberations. The presence of Prof. Jayanth Jayaram from The University of Oklahoma and Prof. Somnath Chakrabarti, Director (I/C) and Dean of Academics at IIM Kashipur, added depth to the academic engagements. Also Industry perspectives were represented on sustainability by Shri Jitender Rana, Senior General Manager and Plant Head and Shri Chetan Chopra, Head – Control Assurance and Governance at V-Guard Industries Ltd.
Faculty members from IIM Kashipur played a significant role in curating and chairing various thematic tracks. These included Prof. K.N. Badhani, Prof. Vivek Kumar, Prof. Rameshwar Shivadas Ture, Prof. Alka Arya, Prof. Vaibhav Bhamoriya, Prof. Jagadish Prasad Sahu, Prof. Shubham Sharma, Prof. Gyasuddin Ansari, Prof. Sunil Kumar Jauhar, Prof. Harish Kumar, Prof. Gargi Rawat, Prof. Utkarsh, Prof. Vivek roy, Prof. Deepak Verma, and Prof. Rajiv Kumar.
Reflecting on India’s intellectual heritage, Shri C. M. Bhandari, former Indian Ambassador to Poland and UAE, stated, “The knowledge of ancient Indian scriptures can deeply benefit both our physical and mental well-being. Sustainable management cannot happen if we do not have respect for nature.”
Prof. Satish Deodhar, Dean (Faculty) at IIM Ahmedabad, highlighted the continuing relevance of India’s ancient wisdom in modern economics. “Ancient Indian texts are not only repositories of spiritual thought but also contain sophisticated economic policies such as welfare state principles, taxation systems, and interest rate mechanisms. These concepts, surprisingly, remain relevant even today. Recognizing the value of the Indian Knowledge System is imperative if we truly wish to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,” he noted.
The concluding day focused on synthesizing outcomes and exploring future pathways. Plenary sessions, Presentations, and roundtables saw the participation of leading scholars and corporate professionals. Researchers from premier institutions such as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, Monash University, KIIT University, NIT Agartala, Birla Institute of Management Technology, Banaras Hindu University, and Delhi Technological University enriched the event with diverse perspectives and research findings.
A key highlight of the event was the certification ceremony during the closing session, where IIM Kashipur awarded certificates to all researchers and participants in recognition of their valuable contributions.
The conference also served as a platform for early-career researchers to present cutting-edge work, receive feedback, and network with seasoned academics and practitioners. From energy conservation to grassroots innovation and rural development, the discussions underscored the need for solutions that are inclusive, contextually relevant, and environmentally responsible.
As the conference successfully completed, IIM Kashipur reaffirmed its commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and fostering global collaboration in the field of sustainable management. With its strong focus on actionable insights, knowledge exchange, and sustainable innovation, the conference marked a significant step toward the realization of Viksit Bharat—a future that is economically vibrant, socially inclusive, and environmentally secure.
