Kerala to Host 8th Ranking Open National Roller Skating Championship

Kochi, May 15, 2025: Kerala is set to host the 8th Ranking Open National Roller Skating Championship. The championship will be held from May 15 to 19 at the ASIADS International Speed Skating Academy, located near Nellimolam in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam district. This prestigious event is being jointly organized by the Kerala Roller Skating Association and the Ernakulam District Association, with the support of the Roller Skating Federation of India. Marking a significant milestone, Kerala is once again becoming the venue for a national roller skating championship after a gap of 33 years.

The championship will be officially inaugurated on May 16 by the Minister for Sports, V. Abdurahiman. The ceremony will also be attended by Perumbavoor MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly, officials from the Roller Skating Federation of India (RSFI), and representatives from the state association.

Approximately 2,000 roller skating athletes from various states across the country will compete in this championship. Participants up to the age of 12 will compete in the Cadets category, those aged 12 to 15 in the Sub-junior category, 15 to 18 in the Junior category, and those above 18 in the Senior category. Prominent skaters with international credentials are also expected to take part. Practice sessions for the participants will be held on May 13 and 14, ahead of the official competitions.

Kerala’s first-ever road circuit track, a 200-meter PU synthetic banked track (with curved sloped surface), is located at the ASIADS International Speed Skating Academy. The specialty of this track lies in its even surface, which allows for enhanced control and speed during skating, providing skaters with the perfect conditions for performance.

“Children from the new generation are showing great interest in roller skating. Kerala has reached sixth place in the national rankings. To progress further, support at the government level is essential. Championships like these offer an excellent platform for growth. The academy, in collaboration with the association, has made arrangements for accommodation and all necessary amenities for participants coming from different parts of the country,” said Siyad K.S., former assistant coach of the Indian team and the chief coach at ASIADS International Speed Skating Academy.

Press Meet Attendees:

1. Sebastian Prem, Vice President, Roller Skating Federation of India

2. Anuraj Paingavil, Secretary-in-Charge, Kerala Roller Skating Association

3. Siyad K.S., Speed Skating Coach, ASIADS International Speed Skating Academy
