NCP leader and former Maharashtra home minister RR Patil passed away on Monday reportedly due to multiple organ failure. He was undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital and was on life support system.
He was transferred to Lilavati hospital two months ago for treatment of oral cancer. Previously, he was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital for cancer.
In December, Patil also suffered from a cardiac arrest and underwent angiography at city-based Bombay Hospital.
He was first appointed as the home minister of Maharashtara in 2003. His tenure ended on December 1, 2008.
He again became the home minister of Maharashtra after the 2009 Maharashtra assembly election victory of the Congress-NCP alliance.
