School of Liberal Studies Embarks on Pathbreaking Dream Hacking Research

The School of Liberal Studies, CMR University , under the Directorship of Prof Sandeep Kumar Gupta and Dr Saranya TS, has initiated groundbreaking research in the emerging field of dream hacking. Dr. Saranya TS, an acclaimed expert in Neuropsychology, is the principal architect of this innovative research, which is being driven by a dynamic team of postgraduate students for their dissertation. The team members, Sambhav Kumar, Navisha Bajaj, Preetha DV, Shashirekha P,  and Saheen Nasreen, are at the forefront of this pioneering exploration, working under the expert mentorship of their guides.

Dream hacking, a concept that explores the possibility of influencing and modifying dreams for therapeutic outcomes, has gained increasing attention. However, the approach led by Dr. Saranya TS at the School of Liberal Studies is distinctly pioneering. Utilizing advanced EEG (Electroencephalography) technology, the research team monitors and deciphers brain wave patterns during sleep, gaining critical insights into the nature of dreams.

Dr. Saranya TS, the driving force behind the project, explained, “Dreams are a gateway to the subconscious, and through this research, we aim to unlock their therapeutic potential. Our approach empowers individuals to harness their dreams for emotional healing, mental well-being, and personal growth.”

In addition to EEG monitoring, the research also involves preconditioning the sleep environment, manipulating sensory factors such as ambient sounds, scents, lighting, and other cues to promote positive and therapeutic dream experiences. Such techniques could potentially aid individuals struggling with anxiety, trauma, and other mental health challenges.

Dr. Sandeep Kumar Gupta, supporting the project with his academic leadership, emphasized, “This research is a remarkable initiative by our students, led by Dr. Saranya TS, exploring a new frontier in psychopathology. It not only contributes to academic knowledge but also has the potential to revolutionize mental health interventions.”

The findings from this innovative research are expected to make significant contributions to the field of psychopathology, offering new insights into the intricate relationship between dreams, consciousness, and mental health. With the dedicated involvement of passionate young researchers—Sambhav Kumar, Navisha Bajaj, Preetha DV, Shashirekha P,  and Saheen Nasreen, —the School of Liberal Studies is set to become a hub of pioneering psychological research.

As the research progresses, it promises to transform the way we perceive and utilize dreams, evolving from passive experiences to a realm of therapeutic possibilities. The School of Liberal Studies, guided by the expertise of Dr. Saranya TS, continues to lead the way in groundbreaking psychological exploration.
