Steely Dan co-founder Walter Becker dead at 67

Walter Becker, the guitarist, bassist and fellow benefactor of the 1970s shake bunch Steely Dan, which sold more than 40 million collections and created such hit singles as “Reelin” In the Years,’ ‘Rikki Don’t Lose that Number’ and ‘Elder Blues’ has kicked the bucket. He was 67.

His official site reported his passing Sunday with no further points of interest.

Donald Fagen said in an announcement Sunday that his Steely Dan bandmate was not just “a magnificent guitarist and an incredible lyricist” yet in addition “savvy as a whip,” “insanely interesting” and “negative about human instinct, including his own.”

“I intend to keep the music we created together alive as long as I can with the Steely Dan band,” Fagen wrote.

Albeit Steely Dan had been visiting as of late, Becker had missed exhibitions before in the mid year in Los Angeles and New York. Fagen later disclosed to Billboard that Becker was recouping from a system. Fagen said at the time he trusted that Becker would be fine soon.

Performers rushed to grieve Becker via web-based networking media Sunday. Check Ronson tweeted that Becker was “one portion of the group I try to each time I take a seat at a piano.”
