March 08, 2025 Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – The Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) has signed an MoU with Indus Action to transform the delivery of social security benefits to millions of construction and unorganised sector workers across the state. The three-year partnership marks a significant step toward digital governance and enhanced social protection.
Through this collaboration, Indus Action will support the GoUP in modernizing the state’s worker welfare system by implementing sophisticated digital solutions and streamlined processes. The initiative will focus on benefits delivered through the Building and Other Construction Workers (BoCW) Board and the Unorganised Workers (UoW) Social Security Board.
“This transformative initiative aligns with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji’s vision of Digital India and will ensure that technology is used to make welfare entitlements more accessible to our shramik brothers and sisters, offering their families a stronger social protection net. Under the able leadership of our Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathji, Uttar Pradesh is committed to becoming a model across the country for smooth, efficient welfare delivery for workers,” said Shri Anil Rajbhar, Cabinet Minister for Labour and Employment.
Dr Shanmuga Sundaram IAS, Principal Secretary of the Labour Department, elaborated on the implementation strategy: “We are creating a robust digital ecosystem that will transform service delivery to our labour force. This system will ensure transparency and accountability in distributing welfare benefits. Our department is working on mission mode to achieve complete digital integration by the end of this financial year, which will benefit approximately 1.5 crore workers across Uttar Pradesh.”
The partnership will deliver four key innovations:
Veddis Foundation supports Indus Action’s non-financial partnership with GoUP through a philanthropic commitment. On the occasion, Veddis Foundation’s founder, Trustee Vikrant Bhargava, said, “We are happy to support GoUP’s endeavour to use technology to streamline accessibility and improve efficiencies towards revamping welfare access for construction and other unorganised workers.”
Tarun Cherukuri, Founder & CEO of Indus Action, emphasized the initiative’s transformative potential: “Our collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Labour Department represents a crucial step toward building an inclusive social security system. We combine technological innovation with human-centred design to ensure no worker is left behind.”
