Iranian producer Asghar Farhadi has approached the Iranian government to permit his comrade and kindred chief Jafar Panahi to go to the Cannes Film Festival.

Panahi has been banished from leaving Iran since being discovered liable in 2010 for “colluding with the intention to commit crimes against the country’s national security and propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
