It all started with the vision of Grandmaster Han Wong. Originally from Malaysia, he has been a pivotal figure in Taekwondo for over 50 years. As a pioneer of WTF-style Taekwondo in Edinburgh, Scotland, he initially came to the UK for education but made it his home, dedicating his life to teaching and inspiring new generations of martial artists.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the world faced unprecedented challenges. Many struggled not only with health concerns but also with financial hardships. Taekwondo practitioners were no exception—without in-person training, competitions, or community gatherings, they faced isolation and uncertainty.
Grandmaster Han Wong saw an opportunity to help. He organized one of the world’s first online Taekwondo championships, providing athletes a way to compete safely from home. But this was more than just an adaptation to the times—the event fees were used to support people in need. What began as a necessity quickly became a movement, blending sports and philanthropy in a way rarely seen.
These online championships became a symbol of resilience, proving that Taekwondo is more than just a martial art—it’s a force for good. They kept the community connected, provided a sense of purpose, and turned adversity into an opportunity to give back.

This initiative was made possible through the valuable contribution of Dr. Pinaki Narayan Moitra. A dedicated medical professional, he wanted to do more for his community and played a crucial role in making this vision a reality.
Today, Han Wong International continues to use Taekwondo as a tool for empowerment and change. You, too, can be part of this growing movement. Join the community and use Taekwondo to make a difference.
