Kepra, a fourth-generation family enterprise based in Srinagar, is among Jammu and Kashmir’s long-standing registered manufacturers of authentic Kashmiri Pashmina, tracing its origins to 1944.
The company is an authorized user of three Geographical Indication (GI) tags granted by the Government of India and administered by the Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts Department: Kashmir Pashmina (GI No. 46) — Authorized User No. AU/30397/GI/46/850; Kashmir Sozni Craft (GI No. 48) — Authorized User No. AU/30398/GI/48/664; and Kani Shawl (GI No. 51) — Authorized User No. AU/30399/GI/51/535.
Kepra is also a registered manufacturer with the Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts Department, bearing registration number M/S-KEPRA HD/DDQC/TTA/R/103, which distinguishes it as a Pashmina manufacturing enterprise rather than a reseller.
Operating from Srinagar, the firm collaborates with local artisans skilled in traditional hand-spinning, hand-weaving, Sozni embroidery, and Kani weaving techniques. The company states that it follows traditional processes while maintaining standardised quality controls.
Kepra: GI-Certified Pashmina Manufacturer Selected for G20 Gifting
Kepra received national recognition when it was selected as an official Pashmina gifting partner for the G20 Summit in Srinagar and the Maritime Leaders Conclave 2025 in Mumbai.
Shahid Ahmad Shah, Managing Director and CEO of Kepra, was present to gift stoles to the delegation. This gesture highlighted Kashmir’s centuries-old craftsmanship and positioned Kashmiri handicrafts as a representation of the region’s cultural heritage on the global stage.
At the Maritime Leaders Conclave 2025 in Mumbai, Kepra’s handcrafted Pashmina shawls were presented to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Home Minister of India as part of the official cultural gifting initiative.
According to the company, its embroidered Pashmina, Kani, and Sozni products carry tamper-proof GI labels with QR codes, allowing buyers to verify authenticity and trace provenance. The firm has clarified that while not all its products carry GI certification, its embroidered collections are fully GI-authorized.
Kepra maintains a physical retail outlet at Nishat Shopping Complex, Srinagar, alongside its e-commerce platform at https://kepra.in, enabling both in-person and digital verification of products.
Industry experts note that manufacturer-level GI compliance and traceability mechanisms are becoming increasingly important amid growing demand for authentic, legally protected handicrafts in domestic and international markets.
