In a three-person playoff against Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner, Fowler took The Players Championship on Sunday afternoon in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He finished at 12 under.
But first he charged back with a powerful rally from the 13th hole on, during regulation play. Fowler finished birdie-par-birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie to force the playoff, which he won with a birdie on the fourth-extra hole.
He went 8 under through his last 10 holes (including the playoff).
The clutch performance came the week after a poll on Sports Illustrated said that fellow golfers considered him the most overrated on the PGA tour.
