Ananya Das Mahapatra Honored with Bharat Ratna Gaurav Award 2025 for Inspiring Contribution to Education and Women Empowerment

In a moment of immense pride and recognition, Ananya Das Mahapatra, a dynamic educator, entrepreneur, and cultural ambassador, was conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna Gaurav Award by the National Education Forum on April 16, 2025, at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi. The award celebrates her unwavering commitment to education, her impactful initiatives for women empowerment, and her indomitable spirit in the face of life-altering challenges.

From Mohanpur to the National Stage

Born and brought up in Mohanpur, a small village in West Medinipur, West Bengal, Ananya Das Mahapatra’s story is a shining example of how resilience, talent, and purpose can rewrite destinies. Daughter of Atin and Jayashree Dasmahapatra, she grew up immersed in cultural values and artistic traditions. Her academic achievements include a Master’s degree (M.A) alongside extensive training in classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, Rabindra Nritya, and Bharatnatyam.

Her multifaceted personality also led her to complete certifications in Abacus, Makeup Artistry, and a School Teachers Training Course, reflecting her passion for learning and self-development.

A Sudden Health Crisis That Changed Everything

Ananya’s professional journey was thriving when life threw an unexpected challenge. A sudden illness resulted in the loss of her vision, and after a series of medical tests, she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, a rare and life-threatening nerve condition with no permanent cure. Hospitalized and uncertain about the future, she fought not just for her health—but also for her purpose.

Despite several setbacks and deteriorating health, Ananya’s determination never wavered. “When doctors said my vision is at risk, I knew I had two choices—give up, or try again with whatever I had. I chose the latter,” says Ananya.

A Cultural Icon on the International Stage

Ananya is also a seasoned performer who has carried Indian culture onto international platforms. In a proud moment for West Bengal and India, she was invited to perform at the International Dance Festival in Bangladesh, where she was honored as Best Dancer. Her performance in Rabindra Nritya moved audiences and juries alike, representing not just her personal passion but the rich cultural heritage she carries forward.

Enduring Loss, Finding Strength

Life dealt another heartbreaking blow when Ananya lost her baby during pregnancy after four months. It was a time of deep trauma, compounded by her worsening nerve condition. But her greatest pillar of strength—her husband, Mr. Shyamapada Sahoo—stood by her with constant encouragement and belief.

With his support, Ananya returned to her mission with renewed courage.
