Tribute to Missy Elliott by Alyson Stoner

Fans were up in arms when longtime Missy Elliott dancer Alyson Stoner didn’t appear with the hip hop artist during her comeback performance at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show. However, Stoner has made her absence up to the fans by releasing quite possibly one of the coolest dance tribute videos ever — where she reunites many of the young dancers that were Missy Elliott music video mainstays in the early 2000s.

Long before the likes of “Dance Moms” star-turned-Sia video sensation Maddie Ziegler, Stoner made moves in several of Elliott’s music videos including the monster hit, “Work It.” The now 21-year-old’s tribute video proves she still has the moves by featuring her leading a dance to a medley of Elliott tunes.

Even though her Elliott dancing days are behind her, Stoner has not forgotten her beginnings. “When Missy comes on the radio or in public, I immediately pause,” Stoner tells Buzzfeed. “Feel so sentimental, and start replaying memories in my head.”

alyson-stoner-missy-elliottStoner also reveals even her friends were upset she wasn’t a part of Elliott’s big halftime show return. “I was on a plane coming home from a film premiere when Missy surprised the world,” she says. “I turned my phone back on and received over 600 messages asking if I was there and if not, why?”

Alyson, now 21, paid homage to her former collaborator with an awesome dance routine done to a medley of Missy’s hits, which she posted to her YouTube channel on Thursday. The dancer and actress also gave an exclusive interview to Buzzfeed, saying, “When Missy comes on the radio or in public, I immediately pause, feel so sentimental, and start replaying memories in my head.” Missy herself reached out to Alyson via Twitter after watching the tribute, writing, “Very sweet of you.” Watch the impressive video above now.
